Laura Shoemaker

Laura Shoemaker is a second-year law student at the University of Texas School of Law (c/o 2017). She grew up in Tehachapi, California and hometown values have always influenced her academic career. She graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles Cum Laude in 2014. While a student at U.C.L.A., she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority and was involved with the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Through these organizations, she participated in numerous philanthropic endeavors throughout college, such as fundraising for girls leadership development programs and work with the local Veterans Administration. Laura also interned at Paramount Pictures while a student at U.C.L.A., which piqued her interest in entertainment law.

One of the highlights of Laura’s undergraduate career was a summer spent in Granada, Spain, followed by travels in Europe. During her travels, she mastered conversational Spanish and developed an appreciation for cross-cultural experiences.

After matriculating to the University of Texas School of Law, Laura became involved with the Texas Business Law Society and will serve on the executive board as the Director of Media for the 2015-2016 school year. She also is a member of the Women’s Law Caucus and volunteered at a legal aid clinic for those seeking asylum.

Laura would like to sincerely thank the firm of Lang, Richert, & Patch for their generosity and is honored to be chosen as the 2015 Frank H. Lang Scholarship winner.
